Blog EntryManong Felix of Baywalk.Sep 24, '07 10:18 PM
for everyone
I cannot tell you anything much about Manong Felix but how i experienced our acquaintance. His line of thought and words are mostly difficult for me to understand and comprehend. At 69, He still dives for clams and sells them to passersby. Was born in Tacloban Leyte and with a family with not much story to recover from.

I can still remember the days of my first camera. It was also one of my first shoots in Baywalk and as usual, alone. One character popped out of the scene. An old man seated in one of the benches and puffing a smoke. His features, one that anyone would fear and respect. A lion. King of the place.

I didnt have the guts to ask to take his photo so like every one else I took a picture of, I snipped off a few ones. Photos that made my day.

A couple more times I went to Baywalk and learned that he was still there. Sometimes with the same clothing. He lived at the place! Well technically he doesn't, he just happens to be there fishing most of the time. :D

So trembling, I approached him and asked if I can buy him a pack of cigarettes which he gallantly obliged. Had a few hours of talk about life and life in Baywalk. In between those are lessons which he emphasized by soul. Like how a father mentors a child... and hours passed by like minutes.

Since then, every time I pass by, I never fail to greet the old man. Tatay Felix.

i love talking to old folks than yuppies... you’ll learn a lot from them – from wisdom to virtues.

On the contrary I dont like talking to old people, Because In my attempts to relate, it makes me feel older. Where as many street people I bump into can talk for hours about their lives and themselves, I can only listen and share a piece of what simple things I have in mind.

Thanks for passing by Jep.
